The Savannah College of Art and Design Jen Library is a focal point for information, study and research. The Jen Library contributes to every aspect of academic and intellectual life on the campus by providing a broad range of services to students, faculty, administration, staff and the Savannah community.
Location
Jen Library, Savannah College of Art and Design
201 E. Broughton Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401
This 85,000-square-foot building, occupying an entire city block, has been transformed from its original purpose into one of the largest art and architecture libraries in the United States. Built during the 1890s, the structure has housed at least five different businesses in its lifetime, including Levy and Maas Brothers department stores. The building was acquired by SCAD in 1996, and restoration work was completed in 1999. The library is named in honor of SCAD benefactors Jim Jen and the late Lancy Jen.

Access Policy
The Jen Library is open to the college community and members of the general public with appropriate identification.
Security Policy
A current SCAD photo ID is required to enter the library. Any SCAD student, faculty or staff member without his or her ID and all visitors must show one form of photo ID (e.g., driver's license) and sign in as a visitor to gain admittance to the library.
Circulation Policy
Each patron must present a valid SCAD ID and provide pertinent information in order to check out materials. All patron information is confidential. Each undergraduate may check out up to 10 circulating books for two-week periods. Each graduate student may check out up to 12 books for three-week periods. Faculty members may check out books for 180 days, but the books are subject to recall for use by another patron after three weeks. Renewal is permitted when a book is not on hold for another patron. All renewals must be made at the library. Reference books, reserve materials, periodicals, audio-visual materials and vertical files are for in-library use only and do not circulate. Fines are charged on overdue materials at the rate of 10 cents per day. Interlibrary loan fines are charged at the rate of $5 per day.
Library Education
The Jen Library offers comprehensive orientation and bibliographic instruction programs. Library instruction is available to students through the first-year seminar course, subject-based classes and individual consultations, teaching students how to locate and evaluate information using the library's electronic and print resources. In addition, on-site computer services staff maintain library systems and assist users with computer-related questions.
Interlibrary Loan
Reserves
Materials that professors request as course reserves are kept behind the circulation desk on the first floor. Reserve materials are noncirculating and may only be used in the library. A SCAD ID is required to use reserve materials. The circulation desk keeps a notebook containing the reserve lists of all professors.
Resources
The Jen Library provides access to many electronic databases and print materials that support the college's curriculum and cover a wide array of subjects. The library's extensive holdings include books, periodicals, multimedia resources and special collections of rare books, student theses and unique items. Numerous computers and computer network connections provide access to the Internet, database subscriptions purchased by the library and a variety of software programs. Library users also enjoy access to multimedia classrooms and a 12x10-foot video wall that showcases images of college events and student work.
